Nicholus is the BDO’s Champion for the Financial Services sector, and equally a specialist in Islamic Banking/Finance. He’s the BDO’s leader of Quality & Risk Management and doubles as the East African regional Head of Audit & Assurance Quality Management (HAAQM) reporting to BDO Global, where he oversees Audit Quality and implementation of best practices by the audit teams in the region. He equally leads the East African Regional Team of Engagement Quality Reviewers (EQRs) and Technical Committee for Consultations on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Accounting Standards, International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), and relating Accounting or Auditing matters.

He has over eleven (11) years experience in Accountancy and Auditing Profession. He has supported audit clients in different Industries or Sectors including; Financial services (Banking, FinTech, Insurance, Microfinance & SACCOs), Pension, Unit Trusts, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Hospitality, Education, Oil & Gas or Petroleum, Energy & Utilities, Construction, Information Technology, Health/Medical, Government (Public sector), Non-governmental Organisations, Donor-funded Projects, and Retail.

Prior to joining BDO, Nicholus was an Assistant Audit Manager at Ernst & Young (EY) where he gained extensive experience offering and leading audit and assurance services to a wide range of clientele in the private, and public sectors. Prior to EY, he was a freelance Business & Management Consultant, Researcher, University Lecturer (in Academia), CPA Tutor, among other accounting & consultancy activities.

With his accounting experience while leading, managing and executing assurance & non-assurance services for clients, he practically understands requirements of various financial reporting frameworks like the Companies Act, Insurance Act, Financial Institutions Act, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Financial Reporting Standards for Small & Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs), International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAs) or the Government’s Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP), Integrated Reporting (IR) Framework, and Sustainability Reporting or Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) Reporting Frameworks.

Nicholus is a full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU). He holds a Masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Kyambogo University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management (DPPM) from Uganda Management Institute (UMI), and a Bachelors’ degree in Management Science (BMS) from Kyambogo University.  He’s a member of the Professional Standards Committee (PSC) for the ICPAU Council and a member of the ICPAU’s Public Practice Panel.
