Marthie Claassens has joined BDO East Africa as the Executive Quality Director, bringing over 17 years of experience in audit and advisory services. She has worked extensively with auditors, regulators, and professional institutes, specializing in helping CA’s, CPA’s, Registered Auditors, and Financial Reporting Professionals comply with international standards and governance codes. Marthie previously served at the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) in South Africa, where she conducted over 600 inspections and numerous quality engagement reviews across both public and private sectors. Her expertise spans engagements with global institutions such as the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA). Before joining BDO East Africa, she led Monitoring and Remediation at BDO South Africa for nearly four years, supporting offices in Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Namibia, and Botswana.
Throughout her career, Marthie has delivered training to professionals from over 45 African countries and served as an expert witness in professional matters. Recognized as the Most Influential Business Woman by CEO Magazine in Regulatory Environments, she has also contributed to the development of the King IV Code of Corporate Governance. Academically, she was the top CTA and auditing student at her university, holds an LL.M. degree (cum laude) in International Business Law from the University of Liverpool, and is currently registering as a CPA. Her wealth of experience and leadership make her a key addition to BDO East Africa's leadership team.
